Exchange Programmes

Woodbridge School’s motto - A Foundation for Life - is well reflected in the School’s unique and dynamic international programme. How many of us travel to exotic destinations only to wish that we could enter the front doors of the homes we see and get a closer insight into the lives of people we meet? Woodbridge School’s programme, now in its fifteenth year, gives its students this rare opportunity.

The School has recently received an International School Award from the British Council in recognition of the richness of the School’s international perspective and activity.

From Year 9 pupils are encouraged to take part in five highly stimulating and varied cultural exchange programmes which enable students to both live with and learn from people and lifestyles far removed from Suffolk.

Trip to Australia
Year 9 Australia

This exchange lasts up to six weeks, with the girls traveling to Tasmania and the St Michael’s Collegiate School, whilst the boys are divided between Newington College, Sydney and Melbourne Grammar School. The length of this trip ensures that our pupils can truly feel a part of the academic, sporting and social life of the schools they visit.

Trip to Sultanate of Oman
Year 10 The Sultanate of Oman

This ground-breaking exchange to the Sultan’s School in Muscat is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to share in the lives and lifestyles of the people of Oman. This extremely successful exchange is one of a kind - we believe no other school in the UK has a cultural exchange programme established with a Gulf State nation.

Trip to South Africa
Year 11 South Africa

This ten-week exchange takes our students to one or other of two very contrasting schools within this extraordinary country: Uplands College, White River is a fascinating school situated on the outskirts of the Kruger National Park; Diocesan College is one of Cape Town’s finest schools. Opportunities abound at both schools for our pupils, from working with children in some of Africa’s most deprived areas, through to participating in sport and adventure.

Trip to India
Year 12 India

300km north of Delhi in the province of Madhya Pradesh is the city of Gwalior, home of two of India’s outstanding independent schools: the Scindia School for boys, and Scindia School Kanya Vidyalaya for girls. Our students not only gain a better understanding of India’s cultural identity - an identity and history forged over so many millennia - but also have an opportunity to explore modern India in all its glory.

Trip to China
Year 13 China

Year 13, and a final chance to travel as a Woodbridge student on this the newest of our exchanges. Both girls and boys can apply for places at the Taicang High School. Taicang is situated one hour’s drive from Shanghai on the Yangtze River and is considered the ‘number one’ school in this city of one million. Its pupils (aged from 16 to 19) have all been studying English since they first started school and offer a warmth of welcome so outstanding that many of our students plan return trips as part of their GAP years.
