Message from The Master

Welcome
I should like to welcome everyone back to The Abbey, but a special welcome to all of the new pupils who have joined us this term.  I am so pleased that you have settled into the school and I know all the staff and pupils hope that you enjoy your Abbey careers and that you make the most of all of the opportunities that are available to you.  We are also delighted to welcome Miss Susannah Crossland to The Abbey and Mrs Miranda Huxley, Mrs Karen Spalding and Miss Ella Dodd to Queen’s House.

Holiday Diaries
Well done to all the pupils who submitted a holiday diary.  I was very impressed by how many of you have taken the time to complete one and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all about your trips and adventures.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Cameron Jordan, who has been selected for the Suffolk County Cricket squad for 2012.  This is a fantastic achievement. Also, well done to Sophie Little, Florence Jackson and Tabitha Billingham who represented the school in Skiing at the ESSK competition last Sunday and finished 2nd in the U12 section. I was also very pleased to hear how well Zara Lye rode at Burghley. Well done to you all.

Year 4 Fun Afternoon of Quicksticks with St Felix
Everyone in Year 4 played and we were put into six teams. It was such a tremendous afternoon of hockey. We had a warm up first before playing  three matches each. We made friends with the girls from St Felix during the game and then got to know them better over a delicious tea. Our teachers enjoyed the afternoon too and thought our play improved greatly.

The Y1 children enjoyed a Toy Workshop at Christchurch Mansion. They had the opportunity to investigate a variety of toys, many of which were from the past. They were encouraged to observe and discuss the differences and similarities between old and modern toys. A Victorian book about animals with a mechanism which, when pulled, mimicked the animal sound, was the highlight of the morning. A picnic lunch was enjoyed by all in the beautiful setting of the park!
