Under 15A Girls' Hockey v Culford

(1-1 Draw – Poppy Bertram)

The U15A's started their season with a fine team performance against a strong Culford side. New faces performed strongly especially the likes of Hooper, Buchanan - however the 'old guard' of Bennell, Harfield and Goode were critical to the team's control of the game.

The first third was a very tense and even period of hockey, with neither side able to gain the ascendency. Culford had the best scoring opportunities yet Woodbridge appeared to create more via it's attacking midfield & strong right side. No goal was forthcoming with Gaydon making two critical saves as Culford broke through down the right side.

The 2nd installment of hockey was an improvement in play from both sides - but some individual brilliance from the Culford playmaker led to a superb individual goal. Woodbridge could not exert any telling control on the flow of the game and began to be forced back with fine defending from Sargood, Fuller, Paul and Goode.

The final 1/3 was almost entirely dominated by Woodbridge with Poppy Bertram securing an early goal to bring back parity and a 1-1 scoreline. Despite a series of surging attacks and desperate Culford defence, the likes of Sylvester, Hatfield and Bennell could not force a winning goal and Woodbridge had to settle for a moral boosting draw.

Credit must certainly go to Sargood who was exceptional in defence, Gaydon who made some crucial saves in goal and to Hatfield/Bennell who led all things positive within the midfield/links.
