Girls’ Christmas Festival of Soccer

On Friday, 2 December there was a soccer tournament where The Abbey joined up with Ipswich Prep School. Some of us were nervous at the beginning of the Tournament and I am not sure why, as it was such fun.

We all got put into eight mixed teams and played everybody that was in our group. There were four teams in each group, which meant sixty-fours girls altogether!

 The results were:

GROUP 1

Blue v Green: 1 - 4

Blue v Red: 1 - 2

Yellow v Green: 2 - 2

Yellow v Red: 1 - 1

Yellow v Blue: 3 - 2

Red v Green: 0 - 1

GROUP 2

Blue v Green: 1 - 0

Blue v Red: 1 - 0

Blue v Yellow: 0 - 1

Yellow v Green: 0 - 2

Yellow v Red: 1 - 4

Green v Red: 0 - 3

The winner of Group 1 was the Greens. In Group 2 there were two joint winners the Blues and the Reds so it had to be decided on goal differences, which meant the Reds won. The final was a penalty shoot out which was nail biting for both teams. The excitement mounted as one moment the Reds were ahead and then the Greens. At the end both of the goalies had let in two goals so it went to goalie against goalie - Sophia Ogilvie and Sophie Little. Sophie Little scored and saved Sophia’s goal, which meant the Green Team had won. The Abbey winners were Mia King, Sophie Little and Louise Farthing.

This event was a great success as it allowed all Year 6 girls to play in a competitive competition and just have fun playing a different sport.  There were some very skilful players and maybe it will inspire others to play more. We would like to say a big thank you to all the referees including the Sports Leaders from the Senior School and to Mrs Clubb for organizing it.
